Abstract

The European Vascular Nurses and Sonographers (EVNS) is a brand new committee that represents the interests of both professional groups working in the specialty of vascular surgery across Europe.
Since 2009 in Oslo, Norway, there has been an edu-cational programme alongside the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) annual meeting, specifically for nurses and sonographers. This has been organised by local individuals, supported by the ESVS. Due to the variability in job roles for these professional groups across Europe, there has not always been a group to organise a programme for the nurses and sonographers at the ESVS annual meeting.
After the 2016 ESVS annual meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, a formal proposal was made to the ESVS committee to develop the EVNS, to ensure a regular educational programme for the nurses and sonograp-hers. The aim of this new committee is to:
• Provide a forum for networking of nurses and sonographers across Europe.
• Build uniformity in provision of services across Europe.
• Build uniformity in competence of practice across Europe.
• Assist the ESVS in providing a society that is in-clusive of the multi-disciplinary team.
• Become members of the ESVS and create a sub-committee as part of the ESVS.
This initial idea has continued to grow over the last two years, and the ESVS are due to have a specific nur-ses and sonographers membership in early 2019. We have also put together a proposal to request that the EVNS can become an official committee of the ESVS.
We would appreciate an ongoing support of the EVNS, and further information about the EVNS and membership of the ESVS can be found on the website http://www.esvs.org/.
